Veo 3.1 costs $0.40/s (checked Nov 5, 2026) with audio at 720p or 1080p on Vertex AI, which is the Standard tier. Veo 3.1 Fast starts at $0.10/s (checked Nov 5, 2026) and Veo 3.1 Lite at $0.05/s (checked Nov 5, 2026), both with audio at 720p. In Google Flow the same models are charged in credits per 8-second generation, so the plan you hold sets the dollar price.

Veo 3.1 price per second on Vertex AI

Vertex AI is where Veo 3.1 is sold by Google as a pay-as-you-go API. The price depends on three things: the tier (Standard, Fast, Lite), the resolution, and whether the clip has audio. Prices are USD per second of output video.

Three patterns are visible in the table:

Flag: "1 count" is read as one second

Google prints the unit as "1 count" in the Veo table. ClipCost reads it as one second of output video, because the amounts match the per-second prices Google published for earlier Veo versions. The page text does not spell the unit out, so confirm it in the Vertex billing console before you commit a large budget. Lite is still in preview on Vertex; Standard is generally available.

Worked example: one 8-second 1080p clip with audio

Veo clips run 4, 6 or 8 seconds, and 8 seconds is the maximum. The cost of one attempt is the per-second price times 8.

Tier (Vertex, 1080p with audio)Per secondOne 8 s attempt
Veo 3.1 Standard$0.40/s$3.20
Veo 3.1 Fast$0.12/s$0.96
Veo 3.1 Lite$0.08/s$0.64

The totals are arithmetic on the rates shown, so they update only when you recompute: 8 s times the per-second price.

Worked example: a 30-second finished video

A 30-second video needs four 8-second clips, which is 32 seconds. The keeper rate is how many generations you keep. The ClipCost default is 50%, an assumption and not a measurement, so you generate eight clips to keep four.

At that assumption, 8 attempts of 8 s at 720p with audio cost 64 seconds of output:

Tier (Vertex, 720p with audio)64 s of generation
Standard at $0.40/s$25.60
Fast at $0.10/s$6.40
Lite at $0.05/s$3.20

Change the keeper rate to match your own batches in the cost calculator. At 70% you need about six attempts, at 30% about 13.

Veo 3.1 in Flow: credits instead of dollars

Google Flow, the creative app tied to Google AI plans, charges per generation. An 8-second generation costs 10 credits on Lite, 20 on Fast and 100 on the Quality tier. Ultra subscribers pay half on Lite and Fast. Credit value is plan price divided by monthly credits, so it changes with the plan. The Flow credits guide has the full table; this is the Fast row:

PlanPer monthPer month, annualCredits / monthCredit valueCost of one clipSourceChecked
Google AI / Flow Free$0.00---20 credits per 8 s clipsourceNov 5, 2026
Google AI / Flow Google AI Plus$4.99-200$0.024920 credits per 8 s clip = $0.499sourceNov 5, 2026
Google AI / Flow Google AI Pro$19.99-1,000$0.0220 credits per 8 s clip = $0.40sourceNov 5, 2026
Google AI / Flow Google AI Ultra ($100 tier, 5x)$99.99-10,000$0.0110 credits per 8 s clip = $0.10sourceNov 5, 2026
Google AI / Flow Google AI Ultra ($200 tier, 20x)$199.99-25,000$0.00810 credits per 8 s clip = $0.08sourceNov 5, 2026

Credits are the same for 4, 6 or 8 seconds, so always generate 8 seconds in Flow. Credits are derived dollar values and assume you use every credit in the month. Monthly credits do not roll over.

Resellers and the Gemini API

fal.ai charges the Standard tier at the Google rate, $0.40/s (checked Nov 5, 2026) with audio. Fast on fal.ai and Replicate is $0.15/s (checked Nov 5, 2026) with audio, above the Vertex Fast price. See the reseller comparison for why people still pay the premium.

The Gemini API no longer sells Veo. The preview IDs for Veo 3.1, 3.1 Fast and 3.1 Lite were shut down on 2026-10-22, and Veo 2 and Veo 3.0 IDs on 2026-06-30. Google names two replacements: Gemini Omni Flash on the Gemini API, or Veo on Vertex AI. Older Gemini API prices are kept on price history only.

Price history for Veo so far: on 2025-09-08 Google cut Veo 3 from $0.75 to $0.40 per second and Veo 3 Fast from $0.40 to $0.15 on the Gemini API. No later list-price change is recorded for the Vertex rows.

API or plan?

Pick the API when you need volume, programmatic control, 4K, or a fixed price per second with no monthly fee. Pick a Flow plan when you generate occasionally and want the interface: the 50 free credits a day cover a few Lite clips, and a paid plan lowers the price per clip. A plan makes sense only if you will use most of its credits.

Verdict

Use Veo 3.1 Lite for drafts and Fast for clips you plan to keep, on Vertex when you build software and in Flow when you click. Standard and Quality tiers cost 4 to 8 times more, so reserve them for final shots. Always generate 8 seconds in Flow.

Questions people ask

How much does Veo 3 cost?

Veo 3.1 Standard on Vertex AI is $0.40/s (checked Nov 5, 2026) with audio at 720p or 1080p. Veo 3 and Veo 3 Fast are legacy rows at the same prices.

Does Veo 3 cost money?

Yes. The API has no free tier. In Flow, everyone gets 50 credits a day, which pays for a few Lite or Fast clips, and subscriptions add monthly credits.

How much does Veo 3 cost per month?

There is no per-month price on the API, you pay for seconds generated. In Flow the plans are Google AI / Flow Google AI Plus: $4.99/month, 200 credits (checked Nov 5, 2026); Google AI / Flow Google AI Pro: $19.99/month, 1,000 credits (checked Nov 5, 2026); Google AI / Flow Google AI Ultra ($100 tier, 5x): $99.99/month, 10,000 credits (checked Nov 5, 2026).

What does a Veo 3 API key cost?

The key is free; usage is billed per second on Vertex AI. The Gemini API no longer lists Veo, so a Gemini API key cannot generate Veo 3.1 any more.

Can I try Veo 3 for free?

In Google Flow there are 50 free credits a day. An 8-second generation costs 10 credits on Lite, 20 on Fast and 100 on Quality, so the free credits cover a few Lite clips.
