How the three models differ:

Input image and input video fees

For a single image-to-video clip these fees are small next to the per-second price, but they add up in editing or reference workflows with many inputs. Avoiding input video is one way to cut AI video costs.

Is it available on fal.ai?

Yes. fal.ai lists Grok Imagine Video 1.5 at the same price as xAI. For the three-way comparison with direct APIs see fal vs Replicate vs direct API.

Grok video limits and subscription: what is unknown

The Grok app's video allowance depends on xAI's subscription tiers, and those changed recently. xAI's docs navigation now shows an "X Subscription", and the old SuperGrok tiers may no longer be sold to new users. xAI does not publish a checkable price or per-day Imagine cap for them, so none is shown here. Read the live terms on x.ai and the xAI models page before you subscribe.

The API price list shows no per-day cap, and it does not state a maximum clip length. Check the model page for supported durations, then see AI video length limits for the lengths that are confirmed for other models.

xAI lists an Imagine image-quality retirement dated 2026-11-02 in its docs. The video models are not named in it as far as the price page shows.

Worked example: 8 second clip at 720p

An 8 second clip is used as a round number, not a statement about what xAI allows. Assume you keep one generation in two.

All are derived from per-second prices and ignore input fees. At 480p the Lite attempt costs 8 s x $0.02 = $0.16. Put your own numbers into the cost calculator.

API or subscription?

For a developer or a high-volume job, the API is the only route with a published price. A chat subscription may be cheaper for occasional use, but its limits and price are not verifiable here, so you cannot compare it per clip. If you need a cost you can plan around, use the API and a draft-then-final workflow: draft on Lite at 480p, then render the keepers at the resolution you need. See the cheapest AI video generator list for how Lite compares across all routes.

Grok Imagine: who should pick what

Pick 1.5 Lite at 480p or 720p for the lowest cost per second and for drafts. Pick 1.5 if you need its higher tier, but at $0.14/s at 720p it costs several times Lite. Skip 1080p on Lite unless you need it: the price rises 4.7x from 720p. For the Grok subscription, check xAI's live terms first.
