Luma Ray pricing: API per clip and Dream Machine plans

Luma sells Ray3.2 two ways: a pay-per-video API and Dream Machine credit plans. At Plus credit value the two cost the same per clip, so the choice is about commitment, not price.

On the Luma API a 5 second Ray3.2 clip at 720p costs $0.30, which is $0.06/s (checked Nov 5, 2026) (derived from the clip price). A 10 second clip is three times the 5 second price, and 1080p is four times the 720p price. The Dream Machine app charges 100 credits for the same 720p 5 second clip, which equals the API price on the Plus plan if you use every credit.

Luma Ray3.2 API price per clip

Luma bills the API per video, not per second, and there is no free API tier or commitment. The per-second figures below are the clip price divided by clip length, so they are derived. Luma's own pricing page lists the clip prices.

How the price moves, from Luma's API pricing page:

Ray3.2 on the API is silent: Luma's app table shows no audio for Ray3.x. Maximum clip length is 10 seconds. If you need audio or longer shots, compare resolution and audio pricing across other families.

Dream Machine plans and credits

The app converts the same clips into credits. Here is Ray3.2 on each plan, with the credit value computed from plan price divided by monthly credits.

Text-to-video without a keyframe adds 30 credits per generation, so an image-started clip is cheaper than a pure text prompt in the app. Plan tiers:

Luma lists commercial use on Plus and above. The pricing page shows no free plan. For generic credit math see AI video credits explained.

Third-party models inside Luma credits

Dream Machine also resells other makers' models for credits. These dollar figures are derived from the Plus credit value of $0.003 and are not Luma-published dollar prices.

Worked example: a 30 second ad from Ray3.2

Three 10 second clips at 720p. One attempt is $0.90 ($0.09/s (checked Nov 5, 2026), derived). Assume you keep one generation in two (an assumption, not a measurement). Then each kept clip costs $1.80 and three of them cost $5.40 on the API. At 1080p the same plan is 4x, $21.60. Change the numbers in the cost calculator with your own keeper rate.

Plan or API?

The credit price on Plus equals the API price only when you use all 10,000 credits. Any unused credits raise the real price per clip, so the API is cheaper for light or irregular use. A plan makes sense if you generate steadily, want the app interface, or want several makers' models on one bill. Pro and Ultra have lower credit values, but the monthly fee is $90 and $300.

For a developer pipeline, the API is the only route with per-request billing. Compare it with other APIs in the best AI video API list. If you want to check Runway against Luma, see Runway pricing.

Luma Ray3.2: who should pick what

Pick the API if you generate irregularly, need per-request billing or build a product on top. Pick Plus if you use close to 100 clips a month at 720p and want the app. Pick Pro or Ultra only if you consume most of a much larger credit pool, because credits expire when unused. Skip Ray3.2 if you need native audio or clips longer than 10 seconds.
